A face-to-face training session entitled “Mapping waterbodies from space with Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2” will be given at the Harokopio University in Kallithea-Athens, Greece, on 29 October 2019.

The aim of this course is to study how to map and monitor the water bodies extent and be able to use the techniques applied in case of emergency. Various methods are used on operational basis. In our case, Sentinel-1 SAR and Sentinel-2 optical data will be considered and we will explore the advantages and disadvantages of each type.

The session will focus on lakes and rivers over the central-western part of Greece due to their importance, in particular, on Trichonida Lake which is the largest natural one in this country. During the exercise, we will access the RUS Virtual Machines and use the SNAP open-source toolbox to process the data.
