The Trans-Atlantic Training 2021 will be held as a distance event from 1st to 4 June 2021. Virtually hosted at the premises of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece, it will be organised by the Copernicus Academy Office of AUTh, the School of Geology and the Faculty of Engineering.

Focusing this year on Cloud-processing of Earth-Observation data, the main objective will be to propose training activities on Earth Observation, with an emphasis on remote sensing of land-cover changes and ecosystem dynamics.

On this occasion, the Copernicus RUS service will contribute by providing 2 sessions on 3 and 4 June:

  • an introduction to our offer including cloud-service computing resources, open-source processing tools and training activities
  • a full-day training session involving several hands-on exercises on Urban area monitoring, Deforestation mapping and Flood mapping, all of them being driven with Sentinel-1 imagery.

Participants to this training session will be allocated a RUS Virtual Machine, fully equipped with open-source toolboxes, and will learn how to access, process and analyse the reliable and open data provided by Copernicus, the ambitious European Earth observation programme.

The session is free and open to early career scientists or engineers, as well as students with advanced skills and research experiences in remote sensing and/or land cover/land use, provided they register before 30 April.

More information is available on the event programme, as well as on our training website.
