As they do not depend on solar illumination or on weather conditions, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) systems are quite relevant to monitor emergencies and more particularly floods. Moreover, thanks to its capacity to collect large amounts of data made freely available, Sentinel-1 is quite valuable tool for flood mapping.

In the proposed webinar, you will learn the basics of image processing for flood mapping. We will show you how to access the RUS Service and to download, process, analyse and visualise the free data acquired by the Copernicus satellites constellation.  We will also employ the ESA SNAP Sentinel-1 Toolbox to demonstrate the flood mapping methodology on the disastrous event that occurred in January 2015 in Malawi.

You can replay this webinar through our RUS Copernicus Training channel available on Youtube (duration: 1 hour).

You can also retrieve the corresponding training support in the Learn by yourself section of the RUS portal.
